Planking our Farmhouse Table Top

More changes to our kitchen.. I've been craving a planked harvest table so I just simply added pine planks to the top of our original oak kitchen table and then stained them the best I could to match our weathered kitchen island pendant lights and RH chair legs... I will post more on the stain tomorrow.. Check out how it all turned out here!

Here is how our little farmhouse table looked before. I posted the first makeover a while back when I simply painted the legs of the table to flow better with our Dining hutch and the rest of our home decor.
First I measured the current table size.. then decided what size of planks we would be needing. We decided on 8"wide pine planks. The pine is the treated kind, less knots, so less likely to have holes in the wood and be more straight (the guy at Rona Recommended and I listened!).. I made sure I took into account the width that I needed the table to be.. to cover the current base better, make it slightly longer and wider. Once you have all your dimensions take them to your closest Rona and have them cut it for a mere $1 a cut. You may need to alter the width of each plank of wood equally so that you can fit the same size of pine boards.. For instance I had 8" one's cut down to 7" making my table 42"W.  We measured the equal distances between the screws.. this way all the screws lined up in a row. We laid the planks and drilled them directly into the oak base/ old table top.
And here is how it turned out once we painted and antiqued it.. I will be posting full details on how I achieved the look tomorrow!!
Below is a little walk through memory lane.. On how our kitchen use to look before our recent reno.. Basically we did a little switch-a-roo!! We moved our big table from our kitchen into the dining room and the smaller table into kitchen. Now I know this may sound weird.. But its only because 'BEFORE' our kitchen reno our eating area was bigger then our kitchen in size.. NOW we fixed that.. our kitchen is big and our eating area is smaller.. so we had downsize from an 8 seater table to a 6 seater .. A small price to pay for a more useful, open kitchen layout. ;)
I decided to include this picture in this post.. It's the way our planked table use to look in our dining room before we got around to planking it. You can see more on it HERE and HERE.
And here is the way our dining room looks now.. Aren't these striped curtains heaven??? They are a recent Joss and Main steal ;)
And here you have it.. our completed Rustic Planked Farmhouse Table
Here is some pictures of the rest of our kitchen, You can see more on our Full Farmhouse Kitchen Reno Reveal HERE
