Shabby Chic Nursery Reveal

This was the most fun I have ever had decorating a space.  My daughters bedroom.. can't even believe I am lucky enough to say that. I felt so blessed to be pregnant to begin with.. then when we found out what we were having a girl!! I was shocked.. We didn't have a preference either way.. but anyone who knows me knows I thought I was having a boy for the longest time..  I didn't even believe the ultrasound tech.. So I went to 2 just to be sure lol.  Ever since I found out she was going to be a GIRL.. and I'm a girly girl at heart.. I wanted to go back to kiddy years and do a 'Pretty Pink Shabby Chic Girly Nursery'.. We wanted to keep the main parts of the room neutral .. Shocking I know!! And add in the accessories for colour.

So the room started off as a guest room, with a simple daybed.. It was pretty boring space but it was the closest bedroom to our bedroom..It was just 4 beige walls .. Ever since we had found out it was a girl I started collecting Decor items.. Well to be honest I had collected for years in hopes that one day I would have a girl (see the pile of stuff in the bottom right picture) Soon it would all have a place!.. Even though we knew she wouldn't be using her bedroom for quite awhile, we were too excited to wait.. We started preparing the Nursery when I was about 6 1/2 months pregnant.  We kept the walls the same colour (BM Natural linen) because I knew I wanted to add white beadboard with a chair/plate rail trim to hold wooden alphabet letters all the way around her room. One of the first things to go up were her baby pink ruffled curtains from Restoration Hardware Baby.
Excuse the mess! Next came the built-ins they we crucial in displaying all the stuff I had collected ;) So I could finally clean up her room!! And start making it look like a nursery. We also purchased the white 8 drawer Hemnes dresser from Ikea. It took a bit of time (3 hours or so) to put together but once it was done it was super heavy and great. The drawers slide easy and best of all it holds all her STUFF!!

It's Starting to look like a Nursery!!! Ahhh her room was almost complete.. I had achieved the look I was hoping for.. A calming, pretty space... At the moment I was only 7 months pregnant so I had no Idea how much actual time I would be spending in there!! Oh my gosh I am so glad I made it visually appealing for myself.. I spent all my days (AND NIGHTS!!) in there those first few months.. I remember just looking around in peace when I would feed her in her rocking chair.
The bead board is actually Beadboard wallpaper!!!.. This was my first time using it!! (I have used it many times since!) I absolutely LOVE IT!. It was great for me because I just laid it out on our hall floor, measured the height I wanted and used a utility knife to pre-cut all the strips.. then I dipped the wallpaper into my Rubbermaid box full of water for 30 secs.. folded the wallpaper on either end in-wards so each of the ends met in the middle.. and all the sticky stuff was touching each other then waited the 5mins and hung it up.. I had quite the technique/ assembly line going. My husband then used our brad nailer and no nails glue to put up her trim / plate height rail. Now I could finally lean the wooden alphabet letters.. (It feels like FINALLY cause I had had gotten these letters over 2 years ago and was just waiting to find out what I was having so I could paint them.. if it was a boy I was painting them navy and going with a nautical nursery or a girl it would be pink!) SO Pink it was.. but instead we painted every other letter a different tone of very soft pastel pink for a slight contrast.
The vintage dog light was a light I had in my bedroom growing up and my mom had in hers.. its super special to me. I didn't even need to paint it, it was the perfect tone of pink. I bought the fabulous shabby chic floral lamp shade on Etsy. These are all Etsy finds actually.. The bear is available here, push pin board here, Love you photography insert here, I framed the insert with a white frame I picked up from Homesense.
The crib is new but looks vintage. It is the Liberty crib. The bedding is Restoration Hardware Baby. Its the Petal Ruffled edge bumper pad paired with the RH baby Antique stripe crib skirt. The pillow in the crib is a Etsy find.
In the centre of her room we hung a big white vintage chandelier on a dimmer. For the White Billy Bookcases we added doors so we had some pretty display space above mixed with the practical hiding space below for all the not so pretty things like the monkey humidifier etc. ;)
The light yellow vintage bench was a antique find at a fair a few years ago. It FIT perfectly and I mean 'meant to be' size for under her window.. I thought about repainting it but I actually loved the way the yellow, baby pink and white all complimented one another. All the pillows on her bench were made by me with various fabrics I had collected over the years.
Before she was born. I placed a baby blue polka dot chair in her room to fill the space of where the rocking chair would eventually go. I was given my old rocking chair from my mom and luckily she gave me the go ahead to paint it white to go with her room.  It was so handy for rocking her to sleep and for feedings.
For the Ikea Hemnes dresser we changed the knobs to these pink striped ones by Pushka knobs. Leaned on the chair rail are the painted alphabet letters and for extra stability and safety we backed them with blue sticky tack. That way the room can easily be changed or taken with us when we move.
The bookcase displays various items from my childhood mixed with New books,  New picture frames and tons of Vintage Finds like the Pink baby weigh scale.
The wooden rocking horse was a handmade gift by my late Uncle John when I was born. So its super special to me that I get to pass it down to my daughter 28 years later.
I found these vintage looking crystal door knobs at my local garden centre and had to have them. I put them in her closet for holding her various head bands. The Closet Paint colour is Sarah Richardson's Robin's Egg.
The Pink ruffled curtains are held back using a fabric flower pin from my local Fabric store.
