Main Floor Hall Reveal

Here is our Main Hall reveal... It's a mix of Vintage and New pieces to give it a timeless appeal. The hardwood on the main floor was sanded and refinished to a darker stain called Ebony.  The walls were lightened.. of course! With BM Edgecomb Gray. All the Basic white and glass builder lights were changed out for 3 Oil rubbed bronze lanterns.. No glass .. so it's super easy for dusting!
The previous owners palette was very warm and Golden in color.. We decided to lighten things up  and go with a Taupe-y Neutral theme through out.
Please excuse the baby safety Gates.. Its the hardest thing about being a mom AND still loving home decor.. Safety First :)
Below you can see how we darkened the floors from a shiny hazelnut orange tone to a Matte Ebony colour.. It shows more dust this way.. But its totally worth it in my opinion.
We left the stairs and spindles as is.. The previous owners did darken them, just not as dark as our new Ebony stain.. We may have them professionally refinished down the road OR I may just paint the larger Front Posts 'White' to help blend with the Floors and other spindles better.
This is our Hall view into the laundry room. The hooks provide extra storage. While the bench is a practical choice.. Our daughter loves to play on it. and the handy baskets underneath provide extra storage for all our winter hats, scarves and mitts.
This gives you an idea of what the space looked like without any decor. We had already stained the floors and painted the walls. The bathroom is what you see ahead.. More to come on that transformation at a later date.
The 2 antique shutters used as a coat, bag and hat rack were from a salvaged shop a few years back. We used the shutters in our previous home as a room divider.. Then when we moved I re-invented it with hooks and its been like that ever since. The hooks usually hold my purse and our daughter's diaper bag (and in the summer lots of hats!) But I cleaned it up for the pictures... I always TRY to keep our home pretty yet functional.
The wood and iron bench has been in so many different spots over the years.. Outside on the porch at one of our houses and in doors in the living room at our next home. It's a newer piece made to look vintage. I lucked out years ago when I purchased it from a Garden Centre during a summer clear out event.
When we first viewed and purchased this house, nothing was ever hung on this wall.. As soon as I saw it, I knew it needed something large.. so I found this amazing Mirror at Homesense and just knew I had to have it!! My brother-in-law was kind enough to deliver it to our home.. woo hoo!
I LOVE how the arch in the mirror matches the arches in our door ways
Here you can see the beautiful Iron work over the Mirror in more detail.
The wall spot below was the perfect place for another piece of Furniture. Here I used our Antique Dining Sideboard as a Hall Console Table.. The drawers are great for hiding all our crap I mean organizing all our miscellaneous items. We bought the dresser in its original walnut stain from a second hand store.. But it was a little damaged in certain areas. So I painted it BM Alexandria Beige. I just love all the simple detailing..Now the blemishes are all part of this amazing dresser's character.

On top of the Dresser I leaned a Gold Vintage Mirror from a thrift store that I white washed. On either side of the Mirror I have a cluster of off white Candles and mix of wood and metal Frames with pictures of my Baby girl from last Halloween and last Christmas.. I Will have to update her pictures soon. She is growing up way too Fast!
We just completed the laundry room makeover .. if you missed it you can see the full reveal here. So now the laundry door can stay wide open :)
Burlap Pillows are my fav! They are very French Country and casual looking. Here I have a canvas Heart on Burlap as well as Our Monogrammed one.. The pillows were made by my Mom. You can see more of her Fabulous work on her Etsy shop
The mis-matched woven baskets house all our winter accessories.. It's no fuss storage.
The hanging wall basket was a steal at a thrift shop when I was visiting my parents last month... $1!! I mean you can barely buy a chocolate bar for a $1 now a days!! It was so cute so I hung it in this little alcove in my hall by my laundry and powder bath so I would always see it! I love the look of dried hydrangeas in baskets. Our Entryway Foyer Reveal

This is our New entry.. It was a very bare space when we purchased the house. Nice and Open BUT all the previous owners had up was a mirror.. I found it odd that there was no place to put on shoes, place your keys or your mail?? So it needed a change and therefore I got to go shopping :). We lightened the walls by painting them BM Edgecomb Gray. I absolutely LOVE the colour.. It's a simple neutral, a light grey taupe tone. To freshen up the hall and blend with the trim, we painted the inside of the front doors in BM Cloud white. To update the closet, we switched the door hardware and hinges from brass to Oil rubbed bronze. I love the way the dark oil rubbed bronze just pops against the white.
We hung a medallion above the door way to break up all the empty wall space. It's a nice touch as it draws the eye upwards towards our cathedral ceiling.

Here are 3 items that I just had to buy ;) 1) The distressed mirror train rack from Ballard Designs,  2) A small bench from Wayfair 3) Francis Lantern from Ballard Designs.. All Online purchases.
One of the selling features of this house was the cathedral ceilings.. they are 22ft High.. You should have seen the mission to hang our new lantern pendant. I wanted this light for so long!! So I knew it would be great for our new hall.. BUT the big catch was hanging it, My hubby is super talented.. He hangs all our lights BUT this was a little high.. So we hired electricians who in turn needed to rent a special scaffold to fit 2 men so that they could go up safely and hang it up! Then they took almost an hour to build the scaffold then to take it down.. Oh man what a mission!! Oh and while they were setting up I accidentally locked myself in the office.. All because I wanted to change the door hardware... this happened while my daughter who was only 10 months at the time was her bouncer in the family room.. can you say Panic attack!! I can honestly say I was shaking!! I have never been so terrified.. I could see my daughter through the glass door in my hubby's office, she was fine and oblivious to what was going on luckily.... After a ton of hugs to my baby girl and waiting our new light looks great...Oh and I got out safe within 3 Minutes thanks to the electricians and some handy tools. Bet you never thought this much drama would go into one light!!  My husband thought the old light was fine.. I hate to admit it.. But if I knew how much of a pain it was all going to be, and I mean really KNEW.. I may of just left it..
I added a 4x6 grey striped jute rug by the front doors.. I love natural materials plus its super durable! Its large enough to collect most of the dirt but not too large that you miss the marble floors.
The Welcome sign.. Is a sign i've had for 7yrs now. Its been at ALL of our homes.
The small Corbel ledge/ table was a decor piece from our previous house, I painted it a light grey, Annie Sloan Paris Grey to flow better with the Carrara marble floors. Originally when I purchased the corbels from Homesense they were bright green.. I added a pine wood top and use it as a Console Table.
This is the ledge / Table where I throw everything when I walk in the door.. Hats, sunglasses, bottles, mail, keys.. Everything! It's SO necessary for my life!
I found this beautiful mirror with hooks,  from Ballard designs, I think it has since been discontinued?.. It works perfect for our space.. It holds our keys and allows me to double check myself as I walk out the door. ;)
This was a pic taken a few weeks ago. It's our Fall decor. You can see our Full Fall Tour Here. On the ledge I have a pitcher with my favourite dried hydrangeas,  As well as a fabric pumpkin that I made with some left over off white burlap. To see more ideas on how to decorate with hydrangeas click here.
Sorry this is a blurry cell phone shot.. But it gives you an idea of the size of space I was working with.
Here you can see the previous door colour.. as well as the lovely painted light switch cover.. We REPLACED every single light switch plate in the entire home... They painted everything!!! luckily we Painted all the walls too..I never want to screw in one of those little white screws every again :)
We didn't have a lot of space to work with.. so I really had to hunt for a small space solutions. I shop online all the time! Especially from Wayfair.com as they allow you to put in size specifications searches for exact width and depth.. Which worked out especially great this time, as I was on the hunt for the perfect sized little bench that was cute too ;). It was sooooo hard finding the perfect bench for this spot. But when I saw this one I just loved the weathered gray tone and natural woven wicker. The bench fits perfect and best of all it hides extra shoes inside.
The Burlap Heart Pillow was a handmade gift from my Mom. The Fall Harvest pillow was made and stencilled my me. You can see more of my handmade Fall pillows Here
