Main Floor Hall Reveal

Here is our Main Hall reveal... It's a mix of Vintage and New pieces to give it a timeless appeal. The hardwood on the main floor was sanded and refinished to a darker stain called Ebony.  The walls were lightened.. of course! With BM Edgecomb Gray. All the Basic white and glass builder lights were changed out for 3 Oil rubbed bronze lanterns.. No glass .. so it's super easy for dusting!
The previous owners palette was very warm and Golden in color.. We decided to lighten things up  and go with a Taupe-y Neutral theme through out.
Please excuse the baby safety Gates.. Its the hardest thing about being a mom AND still loving home decor.. Safety First :)
Below you can see how we darkened the floors from a shiny hazelnut orange tone to a Matte Ebony colour.. It shows more dust this way.. But its totally worth it in my opinion.
We left the stairs and spindles as is.. The previous owners did darken them, just not as dark as our new Ebony stain.. We may have them professionally refinished down the road OR I may just paint the larger Front Posts 'White' to help blend with the Floors and other spindles better.
This is our Hall view into the laundry room. The hooks provide extra storage. While the bench is a practical choice.. Our daughter loves to play on it. and the handy baskets underneath provide extra storage for all our winter hats, scarves and mitts.
This gives you an idea of what the space looked like without any decor. We had already stained the floors and painted the walls. The bathroom is what you see ahead.. More to come on that transformation at a later date.
The 2 antique shutters used as a coat, bag and hat rack were from a salvaged shop a few years back. We used the shutters in our previous home as a room divider.. Then when we moved I re-invented it with hooks and its been like that ever since. The hooks usually hold my purse and our daughter's diaper bag (and in the summer lots of hats!) But I cleaned it up for the pictures... I always TRY to keep our home pretty yet functional.
The wood and iron bench has been in so many different spots over the years.. Outside on the porch at one of our houses and in doors in the living room at our next home. It's a newer piece made to look vintage. I lucked out years ago when I purchased it from a Garden Centre during a summer clear out event.
When we first viewed and purchased this house, nothing was ever hung on this wall.. As soon as I saw it, I knew it needed something large.. so I found this amazing Mirror at Homesense and just knew I had to have it!! My brother-in-law was kind enough to deliver it to our home.. woo hoo!
I LOVE how the arch in the mirror matches the arches in our door ways
Here you can see the beautiful Iron work over the Mirror in more detail.
The wall spot below was the perfect place for another piece of Furniture. Here I used our Antique Dining Sideboard as a Hall Console Table.. The drawers are great for hiding all our crap I mean organizing all our miscellaneous items. We bought the dresser in its original walnut stain from a second hand store.. But it was a little damaged in certain areas. So I painted it BM Alexandria Beige. I just love all the simple detailing..Now the blemishes are all part of this amazing dresser's character.

On top of the Dresser I leaned a Gold Vintage Mirror from a thrift store that I white washed. On either side of the Mirror I have a cluster of off white Candles and mix of wood and metal Frames with pictures of my Baby girl from last Halloween and last Christmas.. I Will have to update her pictures soon. She is growing up way too Fast!
We just completed the laundry room makeover .. if you missed it you can see the full reveal here. So now the laundry door can stay wide open :)
Burlap Pillows are my fav! They are very French Country and casual looking. Here I have a canvas Heart on Burlap as well as Our Monogrammed one.. The pillows were made by my Mom. You can see more of her Fabulous work on her Etsy shop
The mis-matched woven baskets house all our winter accessories.. It's no fuss storage.
The hanging wall basket was a steal at a thrift shop when I was visiting my parents last month... $1!! I mean you can barely buy a chocolate bar for a $1 now a days!! It was so cute so I hung it in this little alcove in my hall by my laundry and powder bath so I would always see it! I love the look of dried hydrangeas in baskets.
