Our Summer Family Room

So here it is our Summer Family Room.. Its nautical surprise, surprise! With more colour than normal for me.. I stuck with a mix of classic tones like navy, beige's, blues and whites on our whole main floor this year.

Our newly made over nesting tables feature a sail boat on our jute wrapped chrome tray. I recently found this great vintage navy picnic basket at my local goodwill for $3 and just knew I had to have it! I also added a navy nautical themed book with a rope ball on top to complete our media storage unit vignette.
I tried to keep our mantle clean and uncluttered, so I just added a simple drift wood boat on the left with a piece of coral, vintage blue book and a chrome lantern on the right. I like the way the chrome in the lantern flows with the mirrors trim detail.
Our swim directional sign points to our pool in the backyard :)
For the pillows I wanted to keep with the subtle nautical theme without getting too gimmicky so I tried to add in other graphic and damask blue fabric pillows to break up the stripes and Of course I had to threw in a good old burlap anchor pillow to really complete the tone. ;)
I just love stripes, always have, always will. Here I mixed the thinner navy ticking stripes with a thicker navy and white stripe pillow. I found this fabulous navy woven throw at Homesense a while back and just knew it would be perfect for the summer, its light weight and cotton, not to mention it flows seamlessly with our colour scheme.
A few weeks ago I shared a sneak peek of the pillows I made from a thrift shop up-cycled vintage sheet. (washed of course!) The blue and white checkered plaid pillows just pop against the white bamboo chairs.
To help break up our dark brown ottoman and allow it to flow with our lighter more coastal vibe. I threw a beige and white cotton throw blanket over top and layered it with a white tray with a mix of natural coastal inspired elements.

  3. I was looking for a picture of the ektorp sectional sofa and came across your family room. I LOVE blue and white and included one of your picture as an example on how I want to remodel my living room. Love your space! I of course linked the picture back to this post.
